A Night To Remember comes as a result of Christine (Chris) Warfel’s participation in the Alzheimer Association’s annual Memory Walk several years ago. For Chris, walking as part of a team would be a way to honor her parents, both of whom she lost to Alzheimer’s disease.

Many years before the Alzheimer’s Association existed, Chris’s father was diagnosed with the disease. He was just 50 years old. With nowhere to turn, the family was alone in its efforts to care for him. After seven very difficult years, he passed away at the age of 57. Just four years later, in 1974, Chris’s mother received the same diagnosis. She was 57 years old. The family was again on its own because the Alzheimer’s Association was still nonexistent. This time, the journey through the void of Alzheimer’s continued for eighteen years until Chris’s mother passed away at the age of 75. It wasn’t until years later that Chris was ready to celebrate and honor her parents’ lives by becoming involved in Memory Walk.

Participating in Memory Walk led Chris to want to do more; to be a part of the organization that was helping so many people. So, as a volunteer, she helped plan the annual Walk by becoming a member of the Memory Walk Committee. Along the way, Chris decided to organize a fundraising event on her own. Thus, A Night To Remember was born. And what a night it has become! There is the live performance by the chicken dance 2acoustic rock trio, Big Wide Grin.

Fun continues throughout the night with raffles and with a live auction. And, there is the very unique Chicken Dance that Chris performs to the delight of everyone.

A Night To Remember is an annual tribute not only to Chris’s parents, but to all those who battle Alzheimer’s disease today. Its purpose is to raise money to support the work of the Southeastern Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Be a part of the fun that A Night To Remember offers and be a part of the cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
